LEWISTON – The Lewiston Junior Maineiacs Girls U-19 hockey team captured the Tier II New England Regional championship with a thrilling 6-5 victory over Connecticut Polar Bears.
The tournament was held March 14-16 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee. It is the first-ever Tier II girls’ regional title by a Lewiston Auburn Youth Hockey League team.
Lewiston won the state title on Feb. 24, qualifying for the New England showcase.
During that regional tournament, the girls were 5-0, scoring 26 goals while allowing only six.
