AUBURN – Lorraine Fernande Varle, 59, of Sabattus, passed away on Thursday, April 3, at the Hospice House surrounded by her loving family and friends after a courageous four-year battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Lewiston on April 26, 1948, the daughter of Ida (Roux) and the late Alphonse Dumais. She graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1966, and married Michael Varle on May 13, 1967. She worked at Roger’s Haircutters as the shop coordinator and manager for 20 years until her retirement in 2006 due to illness.

She was an outgoing leader with an amazing sense of humor, loving personality and positive attitude who always lived life to the fullest. She was gifted seamstress and an avid competitive gardener with her friends and neighbors.

She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, camping, the ocean and mostly spending time with her many friends, family and grandchildren. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary parish in Sabattus.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mike, of Sabattus; mother Ida, of Auburn; two daughters, Theresa Brousseau and her husband, Paul, of Lewiston and Michelle Brown and companion, Jeff Ritchie, of Sabattus; son, Paul Varle and his wife, Emilie, of Lewiston; sister, Joan Blais and her husband, Roger, of Auburn; sister-in-law, Jackie Knowles and her husband, Walter, of Haines City, Fla.; grandchildren, Chelsea and Levi Brousseau and Andrew Varle of Lewiston and Deanna Brown of Sabattus; niece, Kimberly LeBrasseur and her husband, Robert, of Sabattus; nephew and godson, Jeffrey Blais of Atlanta, Ga.; great-nephew and godson, Nicholas LeBrasseur of Sabattus; and countless close friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Brown, Dr. Amir Modarressi, Dr. Marc Christensen, Dr. Philip O’Connor, St. Mary’s Hospital, Bedard Pharmacy and the Hospice House for the wonderful care they gave Lorraine and her family.
