LIVERMORE FALLS – Two men, including one hit by a vehicle early Saturday, were arrested by Auburn police Monday after they was alerted by Livermore Falls police that a stolen credit card was being used at an ATM machine at the Auburn Mall.

Livermore Falls police responded to a report of a burglary at a Legendary Lane home Monday after a woman came home to find her garage door open, her house door unlocked, a muddy footprint on the floor, and her husband’s wallet missing, Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Tuesday.

The woman called the credit card company to report the theft and was told that the credit card had been used in the Livermore area, he said.

Livermore Falls police Lt. Thomas Gould and officer Brock Caton responded to the house, and when Gould called the credit card company to get more information, he was told the card was being used at that time at the Auburn Mall, Steward said.

Auburn police were contacted and officer Nathan Westleigh went to the mall and found three suspects using an ATM machine and found them to be in possession of the stolen credit card, the chief said.

Westleigh arrested Jason Abbott, 25, and Patrick Daniels, 25, both of Livermore Falls, each on a charge of possession of stolen property, Steward said.

Gould went to the Androscoggin County jail in Auburn to interview them and re-arrested Daniels on charges of felony burglary and misdemeanor theft.

He is accused of breaking into the Legendary Lane home and stealing the credit card.

Livermore Falls police were already investigating a hit and run accident involving Daniels after he was found injured lying in the road early Saturday by a woman who went out to look for him.

Abbott was released from jail on personal recognizance and Daniels remained in jail Tuesday held on $100 cash bail on the possession of stolen property charge and $2,500 cash bail on the burglary charge.

Steward said he would call the Auburn police chief to tell them what a great job Westleigh did.

“The quick response of him getting over there to check things out for us really solved the whole thing,” Steward said.
