PORTLAND – Six original young rock bands are one show closer to being named The Best Young Band in the State of Maine and winning $1,000. Remaining competitors in the 24th Annual Reindeer Rock-Off are Skosh from Buckfield; The Blue Stream Band, Sanford; The British Incline, Falmouth; Ego Trip, York; Introducing …, Windham; and the wildcard band, Cato Street Conspiracy, Yarmouth.

All six bands will start fresh for the finals, slated for Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, at 3 p.m. at McAuley. Bands will be evaluated by another panel of judges whose results will be combined with the audience ballots to determine the winner.

Admission is $10 in advance, $12 at the door. For more information, call 857-9002.

Last year’s winning band, The Project, now called Faster! Faster! Faster! from Greely and Cape Elizabeth High Schools is scheduled to perform before passing the torch to this year’s winning band.
