INDIAN ISLAND (AP) – The Penobscot Nation Boys and Girls Club is launching a $6 million endowment fund campaign.

Director Carla Fearon says the club devotes its resources to preserving over 10,000 years of culture with language, education, art and environmental programs.

Fearon said Tom Chappell, creator of Tom’s of Maine, has already been a big help, providing seed money to kick off the campaign and encouraging others donate.

The Penobscot Nation Boys and Girls Club is open to all children, ages 5-18, in the Greater Bangor area.

Officials were holding a news conference Wednesday on Indian Island to outline their fundraising goals.

Fearon says the club currently provides free services for over 200 local youth at its facility on the Island.
