BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell finished a three-game rehab assignment, going 1-for-4 with a sacrifice fly for Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday.
Lowell is expected to be taken off the disabled list Tuesday, after going 3-for-13 with three RBIs in his rehab stint. Lowell was put on the DL April 10 with a sprained left thumb.
“I don’t have any pain,” Lowell said. “Overall, I feel pretty good. I passed the tests they wanted me to pass. I’m looking forward to getting back.”
Boston has an off-day on Monday and plays Toronto at home on Tuesday.
Lowell was the designated hitter and struck out in the first inning Sunday before delivering a two-out single in the third. His sacrifice fly came in the fifth with the bases loaded. In the seventh, he reached on an error and was erased on the front end of a double play.
Lowell was also the DH on Friday night against Syracuse, and played the entire game at third base in Buffalo on Saturday, committing a throwing error in four chances.
“I had expectations of being able to see the ball and seeing how the thumb would react from one day to the next,” Lowell said. “I had no goals on hits or RBIs. It was more of trying to get back in the flow.”
