WINTHROP – Winthrop High School has announced its delegates to Dirigo Girls and Boys States.
Girls State delegates are:
Katherine C. Fortin, daughter of Nancy Kelley and Mark Fortin. She competes in varsity soccer and ice hockey and is a member of the Student Council. Fortin has received many awards. Outside school, she babysits, enjoys ballet and modern dance and is a life guard at Camp Mechuwana and the YMCA.
Caroline M. Frost, daughter of Abigail Guerette-Frost and Glen Frost, is involved in the Latin Club, AFS Club and Student Council. She is on the honor roll and plays field hockey and ice hockey. Frost devotes a good portion of her free time to caring for children with autism. She is scheduled to participate in the Trek Across Maine.
Ashley J. Marcellino, daughter of Seth and Sophia LaPlante, is an honor roll student, having received academic awards for math, health and physical education. She is lettered in softball, soccer and ice hockey. Last summer, Marcellino was chosen to attend the Acadia Institute of Oceanography. She enjoys art and swimming and works part time.
Brittney J. White, daughter of Cathy and Doug Thomas and Matthew Burnham, takes part in Latin Club, Drama Club, chorus and tutoring, as well as participating in track and cheering. She has been recognized for her academic status. She enjoys music and theater. White babysits and works part time.
All are sponsored by the Alfred W. Maxwell Jr. American Legion Post 40 Auxiliary.
Boys State delegates are:
Jordan L.Conant, son of Rick and Monica Conant, who participates in football, basketball and baseball while remaining on the honor roll. Jordan is self-employed part time doing yard work and odd jobs.
Jacob E. Steele, son of Matthew and Darlene Steele, is a member of the Awareness Committee, Student Council and Maine Youth Voices as well as participating in football, basketball and baseball. He has been recognized for his academic and athletic accomplishments. Steele works during the summer.
