• Yesterday the Sturgis deputies visited Pierre Toulouse’s house on Lincoln Street and seized a quantity of wet goods. Toulouse was also detained. His case will be heard in the Lewiston police court this morning. At the Upper Main Central station, Lewiston yesterday the Sturgis deputies seized a quantity of liquor from the team of the North Express Company. Later in the day Joseph Hudson was arrested in connection with the case.

• The Patrician Whist Club met Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. May Bailey of Howe Street, Lewiston. The highest score was made by Mrs. Myra Bigelow. The hostess served refreshments consisting of confectionery, salted peanuts, lobster salad, olives saltines and coffee. The next meeting will be held in two weeks with Mrs. Eva Miller at her cottage at Lake Auburn

• Auburn City Clerk Leon H. Cole reported yesterday that the list of applicants for the Auburn Police Department examination has reached 21 men. The deadline for applications is 3 p.m. Monday, May 12, and the examination is to be given Thursday night, May 22.

• For the fourth straight season, professional guide Red Ivers has caught the first large fish out of Rangely Lake, this year’s prize being a 3½-pound landlocked salmon that has been presented to Maine Gov. Edmund Muskie.

The sun rose in all its splendor on the sleepy Twin Cities Friday, glowing warmly down on the communities as they rose their heads for another work day. The sun continued to rise in the sky unobstructed by clouds or haze, casting a welcome mat of light and warmth on the small metropolis throughout the day to the pleasure of all. Hot Java!
