PARIS – In an effort to promote water conservation, the University of Maine master gardeners, along with the Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District, will host four rain barrel demonstrations.
The demonstration will show how the barrels help reduce the stress of municipalities to supply clean drinking water in times of draught, how they can lower a water bill and how to assemble, use and maintain them.
The barrels will be for sale at the discounted price of $80. Similar models are priced upward of $100 plus shipping on the Internet. The sessions will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. as follows:
Wednesday, May 21, UMaine Cooperative Extension Office, Route 26.
Wednesday, May 28, McSherry’s, Fryeburg.
Tuesday, June 3, Crestholm Farm Stand, Route 26, Oxford.
Tuesday, June 10, Pooh Corner Farm, Gilead.
Preregistration is preferred by calling Barbara Murphy, Extension educator, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Oxford County Office, 9 Olson Road, South Paris, 1-800-287-1482.
