FAIRFIELD – Kari Anna Pelletier was chosen as Oxford Hills Technical School’s CTE Student of the Year. She received her award at a ceremony at Kennebec Valley Community College.
Pelletier is a third-year student in the marketing/retail management program and has been a member of the DECA club, which is part of the program, for the same period of time.
She maintained a 98.3 average and had excellent attendance. She has shown leadership by heading up such projects as creating a catalog for the school store, which was mailed out in rank cards to 2,000 homes, creating a promotional brochure for the school’s varsity girls’ basketball program, working in management positions in the school store, and heading up the DECA Holiday Craft Fair, which features 200 crafter spaces and brings in 3,000 customers.
As a DECA member, she served as state officer for one term and was in charge of putting on the annual DECA state conference and competition. She also had three state competition top three finishes, attended three national DECA conferences, winning an award of competency this year in Atlanta, participated in two regional leadership conferences and in various other activities and fundraisers.
She received the program’s annual Outstanding Marketing Student Award in 2007 and Outstanding DECA Student Award in 2008.
Other academic awards include top five in her class of 295, National Honor Society and the Harvard Book Club Award. She has done numerous community service activities, such as volunteering at the local Chamber of Commerce, tutoring math at the local elementary school and volunteering four summers in the youth boosters soccer program.
She also excelled in athletics, receiving numerous awards in her four varsity years in soccer, two varsity years as a freshman and sophomore in lacrosse and four varsity years in basketball. The top ones included KVAC first team in the three sports, all-state, all-star in soccer and basketball, KVAC all-academic team in soccer and basketball, McDonald’s all-star and all-academic teams, the Bob Whytock Award for outstanding play and sportsmanship at the Eastern Maine Basketball Tournament, where she led her team to their first eastern Maine championship and set the Class A tournament record for the most foul shots scored (31).
Pelletier is planning to attend the University of New England, majoring in mathematics in the fall.
