SOUTH CARTHAGE – New England Celtic Arts will host Maine fiddler Hope Hoffman and multi-instrumentalist Hugh McGinness at the Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in South Carthage on Thursday, May 22, at 7 p.m. A preshow jam will start at 6:30; please bring your instruments.

Hoffman’s concerts combine comic storytelling about farming, winterizing and neighborly adventures, and a rhythmic and lyrical repertoire of traditional Irish, Scottish, French Canadian, English and Scandinavian music, as well as Hoffman’s acclaimed a-cappella renditions of British Isles ballads.

Hoffman’s musical style on fiddle, viola and voice is noted for its evocative beauty and rough-and-tumble playfulness, with influences of Maine dance fiddlers and early music.

Joining Hoffman on stage will be multi-instrumentalist Hugh McGinness. McGinness performs regularly with Hoffman on cittern, guitar, banjo, jaw and harp. McGinness is also one-third of the Irish trio Feckless, with George Fowler on fiddle and Susanne Ward on pipes. He has been playing some sort of music or another for nearly 50 years.

The ticket price is $10 at the door. Call New England Celtic Arts at 207-562-4445 for reservations and directions. For more information, go to www.necelticarts.com.
