ROCKPORT – Bay Chamber Concerts will present a free concert of the Odeon orchestras in their eighth annual spring performance on Sunday, June 1, at 2:30 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House. The Odeon Youth Orchestra, conducted by Marshunda Smith, will be joined by the Odeon Chamber Orchestra and guest soloist, Thomas Wolf on flute.

In Sunday’s program, Wolf will play “Telemann’s Suite” for flute and string orchestra with the Odeon Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Gilda Joffe and Michael Reynolds. Also featured on the program is pianist Sam McKenna of Appleton, playing a “Clementi Sonatina” for piano and orchestra.

The remainder of the program includes works by Rossini, Tchaikovsky and Schumann. The concert will be followed by a reception with the performers.

“I’ve had the honor to take the stage with a number of performers in my life,” noted Wolf, who added, “But there is rare pleasure in performing with such a talented group of musicians who have taken part in the Odeon Strings Program.”

Wolf is the founder and executive and artistic director of Bay Chamber Concerts. As a teenager Wolf and his pianist brother, Andy, founded the organization in an effort to reestablish Camden-Rockport as a center for music and culture.

The Odeon Strings Program is open to youth and adult players of violin, viola, cello and bass. There are ensembles at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. New this fall will be the Odeon Community Orchestra for adults at the intermediate level or above.

String players are invited to join the Odeon String Programs for the upcoming session which begins with auditions on Sept. 8-9. Scholarship assistance is available.

The Odeon Spring Concert is free and open to the public. For more information, or to purchase tickets to other events, contact Bay Chamber Concerts at 236-2823, toll-free at (888) 707-2770 or online at www.baychamberconcerts.org.
