MEXICO – A special gospel concert with musicians Timothy Blodgett II and Jennifer McPherson will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the Mexico First Baptist Church, 20 Roxbury Road.

The concert will be the monthly union service of the River Valley Fellowship of Evangelical Churches.

Nicholas Blodgett, Timothy’s brother, will be also perform as a special guest. A love offering will be taken and refreshments and fellowship will follow the concert.

Blodgett, 18, has been taking piano lessons from Gail Dorr since the age of 8. He started, at age 11, playing for the Mexico First Baptist Church. He has been involved in the church’s worship team, in playing for the choir and in other church events that engaged his musical talents.

Blodgett has taken organ lessons from Ray Cornels, a well-known organist in the New England area. He has many public performances under his belt, including playing and accompanying Dorr for RAPPA. Blodgett has just completed his freshman year at Pensacola Bible College, studying music.

McPherson is an 11th-grade student doing independent study with Royal Academy. She comes from Eliot and has taken lessons on organ for six years, lessons on piano for 10 years and voice lessons for 11 years. She has served as substitute organist for numerous churches.

McPherson served for three years as summer organist for the Christ Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and in the fall of 2007 she played for New Hampshire Episcopal Diocesan events. She is employing her talents at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth as the St John’s Organ Scholar.

This summer McPherson will attend the Pipe Organ Encounter in Worcester, Mass., and the Oberlin Summer Academy for High School Organists at the Oberlin Conservatory in Oberlin, Ohio. She sang in the ACDA All-Eastern and All-National Honors Choirs, the MMEA Southern Maine Honors Music Festival and the Maine All State Honors Choir. She is singing with the New Hampshire Youth Chorus and will travel to Ireland in August.

Nicholas Blodgett started his piano career taking lessons with Dorr at the age of 7. He is a home schooler who loves playing basketball at Dirigo High School in Dixfield. He will play piano this summer for a senior’s group in a local nursing home.
