NEW GLOUCESTER – Emilia Dahlin, recently selected as one of the top 10 local musicians to put on your “must-see” list by Down East magazine, will perform Saturday, June 7, at the Village Coffeehouse. She was also voted best local female vocalist in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and was winner of the Great Waters Songwriting Competition in Wolfboro, N.H.

Joining her will be the Tough Cats who were recently voted Best Roots Act in the Portland Phoenix Best Music Poll.

Born on a small farm south of Boston to a musical instrument-collecting father and accordion-playing mother, Dahlin started as a classically trained pianist. She turned to guitar in 1996 and never stopped.

After a brief, post-graduate stint in San Francisco, she moved to Portland to attend a graduate program in documentary photography and supported herself by singing in the streets of the Old Port. There, she fostered her love of storytelling both visually and audibly. Upon graduation, she settled into the Portland community and started building a career as a full-time singer/songwriter.

Dahlin weaves mesmerizing tales – complete with Greek myths, robotic messiahs, epic floods and tax evaders – with raw, rootsy folk and jazz vocals. She is the quintessential indie musician, wearing the hats of artist, manager, booking agent and publicist.
