WOODSTOCK – Town Manager and Road Commissioner Vern Maxfield was authorized by selectmen to get the town’s 2008 GMC truck repaired.

Maxfield said damage occurred recently to the hood of the truck when a culvert was being loaded at the Paris Farmer’s Union store in South Paris. The hood needs to be repaired so the truck can be used during the summer road maintenance session.

“It was one of those things that happen occasionally when loading a truck and we need to get it fixed as soon as possible,” said Maxfield.

Maxfield got quotes from Bryant Pond Auto Body at $1,750 and from Viking Motors of Oxford for $2,150.

He said he’d let the town’s insurance carrier decide which bidder will do the work.

In other business selectmen authorized Maxfield to bid out winter sand even though the season is a long way off.

Early bids might save money on trucking costs.

“We will be better off locking in a price for our winter stockpile now than waiting until fall to bid the project out,” Maxfield said.

Selectmen agreed.

Maxfield said the town needs 3,000 cubic yards of sand and set June 17 as the deadline for bids.
