BETHEL – Besides electing municipal officers, voters will face 40 items on the town meeting warrant next week.

Four articles ask if the town will approve amendments to ordinances to clarify the responsibilities of the code enforcement officer and selectmen.

The amendments would affect the sewer and water use ordinance, building and construction ordinance, road design and construction ordinance, and sign ordinance.

Amendments to the sewer and water use ordinance would also change the town’s policy toward sewer extensions and limits of town exposure in liability matters.

The proposed changes to the building construction ordinance would eliminate the Planning Board’s waiver ability and expand the ordinance’s applicability to include single and double family dwellings and outbuildings in the Bethel Historic District.

An amendment to reduce the Planning Board from nine to seven members and do away with alternate members is also proposed.

In financial articles, selectmen have recommended $271,635 be raised for the Bethel Police Department, while the Budget Committee has recommended $255,549. For ambulance service, selectmen recommend $187,880, while the Budget Committee recommends $156,080.

Selectmen recommend $297,500 for capital improvements, while the Budget Committee has recommended $240,500.

Incumbent Selectmen Jack Cross and Dennis Doyon are seeking re-election, and Donald Bennett and Robert Blake are running for two open tax assessor spots.

Carol Everett, Peter Hedden and Roberta Taylor are running for two openings on the SAD 44 board.

Elections will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 10 at the Crescent Park School. The annual town meeting will take place at 7 p.m. June 11 at the Crescent Park School.
