The electric cars were crowded all day Sunday. The cars to Bath, Sabattus and other outside towns were over-filled. The crowd at Lake Grove was the largest so far this season.

• Digging potatoes in the spring is rather an unusual occurrence, even in famed Aroostook, but that is what D.J. Wardwell of Perham did on Saturday, May 23. While plowing a piece of land which had frozen in the cold snap in October last, Mr. Wardwell noticed that the potatoes seemed to be sound and hard, not seeming to have been injured by the frosts of winter. He immediately began picking of the tubers and gathered seven barrels of as good stock as if dug in the fall.

CONCORD, N.H. – New Hampshire Thursday took the first major step to save for the ages the Old Man of the Mountains. The great stone face, a gigantic profile carved by nature in the side of Cannon Mountain, is slowly slipping to a certain death. Frost and ice opened jagged cracks in the Old Man’s forehead boulder. Geologists and engineers say something must be done or the profile will some day crash into Profile Lake. It won’t be an easy job. The materials must be carried 3,100 feet up Cannon Mountain to the Old Man which juts out boldly from the side of the mountain. The state hopes to have the work start by the end of this month so the project can be completed by Sept. 1.

A monument honoring Maine lobstermen will be dedicated in Washington next week at a park on Maine Avenue. The Maine Lobsterman monument is a bronze casting of a plaster statue of Harpswell fisherman Elroy Johnson. Maine sculptor Victor Kahill carved the statue for the New York World’s Fair in 1939. Placing the monument in Washington cost around $25,000, which was raised by a group of Camp Fire girls from Cundy’s Harbor. The girls received donations from hundreds of Maine citizens.
