LEWISTON – On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, the first permanent French settlement in North America, the Catholic Church of Quebec will be hosting the 49th International Eucharistic Congress. Its theme will be “The Eucharist, Gift of God for the Life of the World.”

To mark the opening of the Eucharistic Congress, Bishop Richard Malone will preside at the 10 a.m. Mass at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Ash Street on Sunday, June 15.

The Mass will conclude with a Eucharistic Procession from the Basilica to St. Joseph’s Church, Main Street, where there will be benediction followed by a reception in the parish hall.
