LEWISTON – Returning from Nashville this month, Maine singer-songwriter Don Campbell will bring his award-winning adult contemporary, country and folk-rock music to The Maple Room Saturday, June 21, as the official start to his 2008 tour season.

“This is my first time to perform at the venue, and I really look forward to sharing my songs in this intimate room in a town that is always so welcoming to me and my band members,” said Campbell.

Campbell is a frequent performer on stages around the country and has opened for such acts as Carrie Underwood, Willie Nelson, Keith Urban, Ricky Skaggs, Toby Keith, Shawn Colvin and Merle Haggard.

He performs more than 150 shows per year, co-based out of Portland, Maine and Nashville. His recently released CD, “American Garage,”captures a nostalgic slice of Americana in 11 original tunes and two covers.

According to review by Bob McKillop, MaineFolkMusic.com, the new CD “revives the art of the long-playing album … in this eclectic collection of country tunes, folky ballads and pop-rock infused songs about lasting romance, heroes and the spaces in our lives that help us keep our perspective.”

Recently recognized at a National Endowment for the Arts/WUMB radio event and at the University of Maine at Augusta for songwriting and career achievements, Campbell will appear with fiddle player Andy Happeland bass player Tonya Shevenell.

Opening the show will be Don Campbell Band member Sumner McKane, who is often featured on NPR’s “Echoes: program.
