STRONG – The driver and a passenger of a Jeep Cherokee escaped injury when their vehicle collided with an E. L. Vining Co. dump truck on Route 4 on Monday.
Delmont Bachelder, 87, of Phillips was driving north about 11:15 a.m. when he attempted to make a turn into Sandy River Cash Fuel.
The dump truck, driven by Vining employee Richard Ellis, 62, of Strong, was behind the Jeep. Ellis thought Bachelder was pulling over so he went to go around him, police said. When the Jeep turned left, the dump truck wasn’t able to stop and the two collided, said Deputy Michelle St. Clair of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
No one was injured.
St. Clair estimated damage to the Jeep at $5,000 if it isn’t totaled, she said. It was hauled from the scene. The dump truck had damage estimated at $700, she added.
Strong firefighters responded to a call to help with traffic and clearing the scene.
