NORWAY – Western Maine Health President and CEO Timothy A. Churchill has announced that the five ambulances of the PACE Paramedic Service fleet have been outfitted with GPS mapping units.
The units are more accurate than the map books currently in use for obtaining directions. Any address can be put into the system and voice commands will be issued from the PACE garage to the destination. Every hospital in the country is included in the mapping software, which helps with routine transfers as well.
Interim PACE Director Jim Trundy said of the new system, “They are fantastic. The crews are raving about them. They are easy to use, fast and accurate. Drivers put the address in, and it walks you through the directions to the door. They have voice prompts so that the drivers never have to take their eyes off the road.”
PACE Ambulance Service includes five ambulances that serve the Oxford County region that respond to more than 3,000 calls annually.
