BETHEL – Three summer events are on the horizon for the Bethel Historical Society that require sponsors. Between $3,500 and $4,000 is needed this year for the events: the 4th of July Community Picnic, the Ripley Brass Band Festival on July 26 and Sudbury Canada Days on Aug. 8 to 10.

The community picnic features a two-hour concert by the Portland Brass Quintet, which has been playing each July 4 on the grounds of the Dr. Moses Mason House or at the Middle Intervale Meetinghouse since 1993.

The Ripley Brass Band Festival will include music of Oxford County’s Winfield Scott Ripley and will feature five brass bands, the Gilford Band (N.H.), the Newmont Band (Vt.), the Centennial Brass Band, the Mahoosuc Band and the Yankee Brass Band on Saturday, July 26.

Sudbury Canada Days, the society’s summer heritage festival, will feature 18th century re-enactors along with a host of other activities during the three-day event.

Sponsors for one or more of these events are being sought. More than half the necessary funds has already been raised or allocated. Anyone wishing to make a tax deductible gift in any amount is asked to send it to the society at P.O. Box 12, Bethel, ME 042117.
