LEWISTON – The YWCA of Central Maine is accepting registrations for summer day camp programs.

Camp Kangaroo is open to children ages 5 and 6 and Camp Weewannago is for children ages 7 through 12. Both operate from June 30 through Aug. 22, an eight-week period. Each week, camp has a different theme and at least one field trip.

Children can attend camp for as little as one week or for all eight. Camps run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (with the exception of Friday, July 4).

Week 1, June 30 to July 3, Animal Adventure: There will be an animal safari adventure and a trip to York’s Wild Kingdom.

Week 2, July 7 to 11, Back in Time: Campers will dig through the past and blast off into the future. Kangaroo campers will visit the Children’s Discovery Museum and Weewannago campers will see the Maine State Museum.

Week 3, July 14 to 18, Science Sleuths: There will be science experiments and discoveries, Campers will visit the Lewiston Police Department for an up-close look at science in action.

Week 4, July 21 to 25, Kr8tive Kampers: It is a week for artists and artist wannabes with crafts of all kinds. Artists will take a trip to Funtown/Splashtown during the week.

Week 5, July 28 to Aug. 1, Splish Splash: As many activities as possible will be water-based. Kangaroo campers will visit Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary and Weewannago campers will travel to Splashtown.

Week 6, Aug. 4 to 8, Mystery Week: Campers will work with teammates to solve daily challenges and collect clues for the week-long mystery. The super-sleuths will also visit Wolf’s Neck State Park.

Week 7, Aug. 11 to 15, Team Spirit: The week will be all about games, team building and old-fashioned fun. Campers will work on a variety of sports to prepare their team for the camp-wide event at the end of the week. Campers will cheer on the Sea Dogs at a ball game.

Week 8, Aug. 18 to 22, Broadway Stars: The week is for the actors and actresses. Try Campers will be in the cast of the YWCA camps production at the end of the week. The drama kings and queens will visit Flagship Cinemas for a tour and see “The Three Little Pigs” at the Theater at Monmouth.

Tuition rates for Camp Kangaroo are $145 a week and for Camp Weewannago, $165 a week. A one-time registration fee of $25 is required. Non-YWCA members must pay an additional $30 for membership prior to participating in camp. The fee covers a year-long membership and allows campers the benefits of membership year-round. TOPS scholarships are accepted.
