PORTLAND (AP) – Police are investigating an early morning shooting outside a Portland bar.

City police say 27-year-old James Sanders was shot in the torso at 1 a.m. Tuesday outside a Fore Street bar called the Cactus Club.

Police allege that Sanders was shot by 21-year-old Brandon Brown of Portland after Sanders and another man got into an altercation that Brown joined in.

Brown was charged with elevated aggravated assault and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

Sanders was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
