BRIDGTON – Gallery 302 will showcase work by textile artist Catherine Worthington of Brunswick from June 29 to July 17.

Worthington, who has exhibited her work throughout the state, has a bachelor of fine art’s degree from the University of Massachusetts. She has been an artist mentor, an artist in residence, an art instructor at Bowdoin College and Midcoast Regional Arts and a costume designer for the Brunswick Theater Project.

Worthington begins her pieces by painting on canvas, using various surface design techniques. She then collages pieces of her hand-painted fabric together and machine quilts the piece, which allows her to draw with thread. She often adds handstitching to add even more texture and detail.

“The inspiration for my work comes mostly from nature with its natural beauty, color, patterns and texture. I am drawn to the sea and the creatures that live there and also abstract landscapes, seascapes and sunsets in which I try and create a feeling or a familiar place for the viewer to escape,” Worthington said.

A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 5. For more information, call 647-ARTS.
