RUMFORD – Selectmen spent more than three hours late Monday afternoon wrapping up books for the end of the fiscal year, then interviewing more than a dozen applicants for positions on municipal boards and committees.

Interim Town Manager Len Greaney said 15 people were interviewed for positions on the Finance Committee, Board of Appeals, Planning Board, Med-Care Ambulance Service Board, Library Trustees, Parks Commission and the job of animal control officer.

Those who are chosen will be named at the July 3 selectmen’s meeting.

Interviews began about a year ago as a means to discuss the duties of particular boards and to get opinions from those who apply, said Greaney.

He expects several openings will remain after applicants are appointed. Those include two, three-year terms on the Finance Committee, two three-year alternate positions on the Board of Appeals, one three-year term on the Planning Board, and one three-year alternate position on the Planning Board.

Those openings, and any others that may arise, will be listed in an advertisement for applicants, said Greaney.

The closing of the financial books involved a meeting of the town clerk, financial director and tax collector. Meetings of the three officers, along with the town manager, are expected to become routine.
