NEWRY – Dangerous humps on Sunday River Road near Nordic Knoll, necessary erosion control work in the Sunday River watershed and lighting replacement at the town office are money articles facing voters at next week’s special town meeting.

It will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 7, in the town office.

Consultant Jeff Stern will be at the meeting to speak about Article 1, which seeks to take $90,000 from surplus to do erosion control work in the Sunday River watershed. The money will be reimbursed through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to town administrator Loretta Powers.

“We’ve been working on this for three years, which seems like forever,” Powers said on Wednesday of the struggle for federal funding.

Article 2 seeks voter approval to take $6,000 from the capital improvement account to buy and install efficient lighting.

The last article asks voters to OK taking $90,000 from the same account to remove humps in Sunday River Road that have caused sight distance issues for drivers.

“This is a guesstimate. By Monday, I hope to have the actual cost so we can change the warrant,” Powers added.
