PORTLAND – Self-made pianist/singer/songwriter Kate Schrock will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, at North Star Music Cafe.

The Maine native who has produced and released six acclaimed albums, blends roots rock, jazz, gospel and reggae with a pop angle – creating dark, emotional textures. Her music is infused with stories of truth, beauty and spiritual struggles.

Schrock, who has been likened to Joni Mitchell by critics, tours nationally and has shared the stage with Taj Mahal, Stephen Stills and Sophie B. Hawkins.

According to a review in Downbeat magazine, Schrock “populates her introspective songs with searching, often battle-scarred characters and tells their stories with a strong, fervent voice…”

Tickets, $10, are available at the cafe at 225 Congress St. and by calling 699-2994. They will also be sold at the door. Opening the show will be Scottish artist Freddie Stevenson.
