AUBURN – Normand Albert has been appointed to the board of directors at Mechanics Savings Bank.

Albert recently retired from TD Banknorth as executive vice president in the commercial lending department. His 38-year banking career began in 1970 at First Bank, which subsequently became Fleet Bank. In 1988, he joined Peoples Heritage Bank, where he served as a senior vice president and as a senior commercial lending officer in Lewiston-Auburn until his promotion to executive vice president in 2000.

For 10 years, Albert served on the board of directors and as treasurer of the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council. He also has served with Androscoggin Home Health Agency and the United Way. He currently serves on the board of directors of Central Maine Health Ventures Inc.

He is a 1967 graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School and attended St. Francis College. He is a graduate of two American Bankers Association schools, The National School of Real Estate Finance at Ohio State University, and the National School of Commercial Lending at the University of Oklahoma.

He and his wife live in Lewiston. They have two grown children.
