KEENE, N.H. (AP) – Police in Keene, N.H., say a frightening scam is showing up in the Monadnock Region.

As usual, the scam involves money, but this one includes an alleged death threat.

Police say victims typically receive e-mails from someone saying they have been hired to kill them, but now has second thoughts.

The sender offers not to kill the victim for considerably less than the contract price.

Keene police say the e-mails also make threats against a victim’s friends and family if the police are contacted.

Police say there have been a number of similar cases in the state, but so far, there is no indication that the scam is anything more then a ruse to get money.
