DIXFIELD – The Dixfield-Dirigo Alumni Association held its annual alumni banquet on June 21 at the T.W. Kelly Middle School. One hundred and forty-five members and guests attended the potluck buffet supper.
The association honored the classes of 1948 (60 years), 1958 (50 years) and 1968 (40 years).
Each class had a representative to give a brief history of their respective class. Connie (Brown) Tutlis said her class (1948) was the first to graduate in the original high school building, There are 19 graduates with five deceased members.
Jerome “Romie” Marble (1958) stated his class started with 52 and graduated 27. Marble is a former Dixfield teacher and coach and resides in Florida.
Jim Norris (1968) said his class started with 52 and graduated 47 with five classmates deceased. Norris said Cleon “Kip” Fletcher retired in June, ending a 33-year teaching career.
Jon Holmes (1963) was named Dixfield’s Most Distinguished Citizen this year.
Thirza (Holman) Towle and Hazel (Savage) Kennedy represented the oldest class attending (1935). The youngest class (1977) was represented by Julie (Arsenault) Reid and Terri (Park) Cox.
The Scholarship Committee chose the following seniors to receive the annual scholarships of $1,000: Derek Daley, attending Plymouth State College, N.H.; Colby Knapp, attending Daniel Webster College, N.H.; and Kristina White, Erik Kersey and Tim Holman, all attending Central Community College in Auburn.
Out-of-state travelers came from Florida: Frank Walton (’68) Jerome Marble (’58) and wife, Carol Arsenault Foley (’62) and husband and Elaine (Knox) Boggs (’57); Colorado: Randy Comeau (’63); Indiana, David Horne (55) and wife; and New Hampshire: Erlon Gill (’48).
Keith Morrison won the 50/50 and returned his winnings to the alumni. He also gave money for a scholarship in memory of his brothers, Bradley and Glendon.
Special guest was a former teacher, Mrs. Nat Weston of Pemaquid.

Class of 1958: Kathleen Crockett, Earle Towle, Sandra (Russell) Higgins and Fred Higgins, Frank Stone, Coval Conant and wife, Judy (Elliott) Couture, Jerome Marble and wife, Robert (Bucky) Dunham, Elaine (Charity) Maurais, Donna (Chase) Taylor, Dan Mitchell and wife, Lillian Leeman and husband.
Class of 1968: Cindy Lane, Jim Norris, Dan Collins, Jim Collins, Harry Snowman, Sheryl Campbell and friend, Sharon (Coolidge) Webber, Trudy (Berry) Bowie, Brenda (Durrell) Calden, Geraldine (Holman) Vitala and husband, Bill (Bucky) Leighton and Frank Walton.
