RUMFORD – “Measuring Maine Lakes” for the effect of global warming will be the main theme of a talk by Dr. Daniel Buckley, University of Maine at Farmington, at a public meeting on Thursday, Aug. 7.
Sponsored by the Howard Pond Preservation Association, the meeting, open to all, will be held at 7 p.m. in the community room of the Rumford Point Congregational Church.
Buckley will explain the objectives of his lake monitoring study. He will discuss his electronic lake monitoring device, one of which will be placed in Howard Pond in Hanover.
The device automatically records lake changes from ice-out to freeze-up. He will also discuss the reinforcement and interaction of his study with the results from measuring of Maine lakes currently being done by volunteers plus similar studies by Maine Coalition of Lakes Association in order to set reference points concerning global warming.
Refreshments will be served following the discussion. For more information and directions, call 364-8149.
