PEAKS ISLAND – “Something doing these days at Peak’s,” said the lobster man, as he hung up the receiver. “First ’tis a dinner at the hotel, then they hustle me for a big order down the line, and sometimes,” said the fisherman, as he looked with worried air at his order book, “sometimes it seems to me that the pesky fish ain’t a holding up their end of the bargain. Some day there won’t be a blamed lobster on the island and then there’ll be conniptions.”

50 years ago, 1958

A decision which will result in the abolishment of the annual Washington, D.C., trip for Lewiston and Edward Little High School students was announced yesterday by local school officials. Lewiston and Auburn school departments disclosed yesterday that the spring vacation has been omitted from the school calendar for the coming school year. However, the summer vacation will be longer as a result.

25 years ago, 1983

FARMINGTON – Hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and cold drinks along with balloons, an art show, lobster festival, chicken barbecue, road races and downtown Farmington sales in the stores and on the sidewalks combined to make a fun-filled day on Friday. Moonlight Madness is held annually under the sponsorship of the Farmington Downtown Businessmen’s and Professional Association Inc.
