AUBURN – Auditions for Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre’s production of “Kiss Me Kate” will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, and at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center.

Written by Bella and Samuel Spewack, “Kiss Me Kate” combines Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew” with Cole Porter’s music and lyrics. The show is a play-within-a-play where each cast member’s onstage life is complicated by what is happening offstage.

The following characters are needed for this production:

Fred Graham/Petrucchio: high baritone; a writer, producer, director, actor and superman

Lilli Vanessi/Kate: soprano; leading actress, film star returning to the legitimate stage and ex-wife of Graham

Lois Lane/Bianca: belt; a nightclub singer in her first stage production

Bill Calhoun/Lucentio: baritone; Broadway hoofer, a chronic gambler. He is Lois’ partner onstage and off.

First Man and Second Man: Gunmen who are the enforcers of a crap game. Comic roles with one song.

General Harrison Howell: Lilli’s fiancé, a dedicated military man with a featured vocal number

Hortensio and Gremio: Suitors for Bianca in “Taming of the Shrew.” Two singing and dancing roles.

Hattie: Lilli’s dresser, possible featured vocal. Should have very good vocal range.

Paul: Fred’s dresser, also a possible featured vocal

Harry Trevor/ Baptista: onstage father of Kate and Bianca. No vocals necessary.

Multiple ensemble roles, both dance and vocal

Vocal auditions will be closed. Performers may select a number from the show or bring sheet music for a song of their choice. Auditioners for Fred and Lilli should be familiar with “So In Love” from the show. Auditioners for Lois should be familiar with “Always True To You In My Fashion.”

Performance dates are Oct. 10, 11, 12, 16, 17 and 18. For more information, call director David Lock at 784-2274 or 998-4351 or log on to www.laclt.com.
