Preparations for the 1983 municipal elections are underway in Auburn, as two men have already obtained nomination papers from the city clerk.

Alvin Gilbert of Turkey Lane has taken out papers for the Ward 4 council seat, while Fred O. Sanborn of 154 Cook St. has papers and is interested in either the Ward 5 council seat or the mayoralty, according to Mary Lou Magno.

If a voter signs two petitions for opposing candidates, only the first signature to be submitted to the clerk will be counted, Magno said. Therefore, a voter could validly sign nomination papers for one mayoral candidate, one council candidate and two School Committee candidates.
