LEWISTON – New Beginnings Shelter for Youth has a new Honda Odyssey thanks to a grant from the JTG Foundation.

The shelter is one of several programs New Beginnings operates for youth who are in need of services due to family conflict and/or homelessness. In addition to emergency shelter, the 12-bed facility, located on Main Street, provides case management, family mediation and recreation for the youth in residence.

The cost of transportation has gone up, along with other operational costs, said Robert Rowe, executive director of New Beginnings. The fuel efficient Honda will replace an older 12-passenger van and the cost of gas alone will represent a significant savings for the program.

The grant also will provide youth in the program a chance to get out to the lakes and mountains this summer, providing recreational activities.
