GREENVILLE (AP) – A public hearing is set for next week on a proposal to allow all-terrain vehicles to travel on a paved shoulder in Greenville that would provide access to the downtown area.

The proposal was offered by the local ATV club, which has been working with town officials and police to find a way for riders to travel into the downtown on their vehicles.

The public hearing on the plan to use the paved shoulder of Pritham Avenue will be held Aug. 20.

Town Manager John Simko says that while it may not be ideal to have ATVs going up and down an in-town street, he believes it would allow visitors to come into the community safely and legally. He said the idea has the support of local businesses.
