More than 200 nursing home residents joined together for a special geriatrics olympic day hosted recently by Clover Health Care in their front yard on Minot Avenue in Auburn. Residents represented Marcotte, Bolster Heights, Marshwood, St. Casimir and Russell Park health-care facilities.

Bill Gillis, Clover Health Care administrator, welcomed all of the residents to participate in sit-down volleyball, darts and balloons, buckets and balls.

Some nursing home residents used wheel-chairs and walkers. Residents threw the ball trying to knock someone into the dunk tank. “I used to be pretty good with a ball. My hands may not work too well now, but let me try.” said one resident.

Volunteers aided throughout the day. At lunchtime they became cooks and waiters for a hot dog cook out. Game playing also included prizes for the winners. Community businesses donated prizes and food. Plants that were won will decorate rooms.
