LEWISTON – After six years of working to fund educational initiatives for students, the Lewiston Education Fund has hired Marti Hiat of Topsham as its first executive director.

Hiat comes to the fund following several years of development work with other area nonprofits. Most recently, Hiat served as a grant writer for the Institute for Financial Literacy, a Portland-based agency that works to educate people on ways to rehabilitate their personal finances.

Prior to that, she took on various roles for the Riverview Foundation, a Topsham-based educational organization providing in-school and after-school youth aspirations programs in southern Maine.

Also, Lewiston Education Fund member Peter Geiger was recently named president of the Lewiston Education Fund board.

Founded in 2002, the Lewiston Education Fund is a nonprofit organization created to fund projects and programs that expand educational opportunities, foster creativity and enhance academic excellence in Lewiston’s public schools. Funding comes from individual and corporate tax-deductible contributions, as well as foundation support. To learn more, visit www.lewistoneducationfund.org.
