AUBURN – The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer “High Pressure Boiler” (ENT 022-21) from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 15 to Dec. 8. The cost of $425 includes materials.

The course provides the boiler operator with the knowledge and techniques to operate a steam generating plant in a safe and efficient manner. The course offers a practical approach to power plant operation. It is designed to prepare the student for the high pressure boiler operator licensing exam.

Basics of boiler design and control are emphasized as well as the importance of feed water treatment. Topics include practical aspects of day-to-day operation, steam turbine control and power generation, and control of environmental parameters to meet emission requirements. The safe handling and combustion of natural gas fuel oil, coal and wood fuel is covered.

The class will be taught by Douglas Lothrop. Lothrop has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maine, a first class engineer’s license and has held positions in engineering and management.
