BETHEL – Western Mountains Senior College will hold its annual membership meeting and a special presentation of the September “Down Home Maine” program from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Gehring House, 77 Broad St.
Membership renewals and class registrations, not mailed to the college in advance, may be completed during the event. There is still time to mail in the renewals and registrations to be guaranteed a place in the classes of interest and have books and supplies available for pick up at the meeting.
Application forms are available in college newsletters mailed to members. Newsletters are also available at local businesses, or interested persons may call Jackie Cressy at 824-0508.
The forms may be mailed to WMSC, P.O. Box 1305, Bethel. New members are welcome and may join at the meeting or send in their registration in advance.
Cressy and Peter Gartner, college co-chairs, will conduct a brief business meeting, and new board members will be elected. Nominated for their first three-year terms are Charlene Chase, Mary Stryker and Roberta Taylor. Jody Carter and Bonnie Poolie have been nominated for their second three-year terms.
Ross Timberlake, local woodworker and businessman and a WMSC member, will be the featured speaker. The Down Home Maine programs are held on the first Thursday of the month and focus on unique, creative and adventurous people who help make Maine a great place to live.
In the special program for WMSC members only, Timberlake will speak on the unique work he does at S. Timberlake and Co. and on his latest undertaking for the community, the new Bethel Performing Arts Project.
Refreshments will be available. RSVPs are requested by Friday, Aug. 29, to help with planning and may be made by calling the SAD 44 community education office at 824-2780. For more information, contact Cressy at 824-0508 or Gartner at 665-2181.
