EAST MILLINOCKET (AP) – An unsolved homicide case will be investigated anew on Friday when an autopsy is performed on the body of a teenage girl who was killed in East Millinocket 28 years ago.
The body of Joyce McLain is set to be exhumed on Thursday and taken to the Maine medical examiner’s office. That’s where renowned forensic experts Dr. Michael Baden and Dr. Henry Lee will examine her body the following day.
McLain was 16 when she disappeared after going jogging on the night of Aug. 8, 1980. Her body was found two days later near the Schenck High School soccer fields. Her head and neck had been struck repeatedly with a blunt object.
Baden and Lee are performing the autopsy at the request of McLain’s mother. A fundraising campaign raised $18,000 to pay their expenses.
