GREENE – Music By MAGIC will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, and at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road. Admission is free and the doors will open one hour before shows.
Music by MAGIC is a newly-formed vocal and instrumental group that specializes in easy-listening standards from the 1930s through 1970s. The members have a long history of musical performance in central Maine.
Conrad Soucy is a self-described “born-again former rock star” who gave up playing to spend more time with his family and who is back after a 20-year hiatus. He recently played for the Fanfare Concert Band, for several Kora Shrine bands, for the Windjammers Circus Music Band, the 60’s Plus Band and the Music Makers Big Band. He is percussionist for Music by MAGIC.
Joanne Fuller first sang in a folk/folk-rock group known as Chord Majority. Between 1970 and 1980, she also performed with other professional groups, including Vehicle, The Flairs, Voyage and Traces. She stopped singing professionally in 1981 so she could spend more time with her family. She returns to her singing career with Music by MAGIC.
Diane J. Biron and Roland M. Roy are strangers neither to MAGIC nor to L-A audiences. As co-founders and directors of the MAGIC Pops Chorus and, later, MAGIC and Company, they entertained audiences in Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding communities during the 1990s and beyond.
During that time, they produced theatrical musical shows, created holiday programs, sang for benefits and did cabaret-style shows in local restaurants. In 2000, they joined the board of directors of the Poland Spring Preservation Society and served as coordinators and co-hosts of the society’s summer concert series until 2006. They return to the L-A music scene as performers in their new endeavor, Music by MAGIC.
