LEWISTON – The Academy Lewiston-Auburn, 134 Main St. (behind Espo’s), is now open and offering classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, self-defense, kickboxing and crossfit. The Academy is also home to a thriving program that helps children become well-rounded young martial artists by utilizing a class structure that includes grappling, striking and fitness.

Owner Jay Jack began taking traditional forms of martial arts at the age of 5. In his late teens, he pursued Thai boxing and a few years later added judo. In his mid-20s, he found Amal Easton, a Renzo Gracie black belt, and dedicated himself to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He holds a black belt in karate, judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu; has more than 20 professional mixed martial arts fights; and competes all over the country in both submission grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

The gym is open from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.
