Plummer to speak on Maine statehood

LISBON FALLS – Auburn historian Charles W. Plummer will be the featured speaker at the Wednesday, Sept. 10, meeting of the Lisbon Historical Society. His presentation will focus on the events that led to Maine becoming a state. He will also share some of the first laws that were enacted by the state legislature.

Plummer will also talk about a second theme that came into play in the bid for statehood, which was the rift between the residents of coastal Maine and the interior.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street. Refreshments will be served following the meeting.

A recent guest speaker was the Rev. James L. Lufkin, who talked to members and guests about the history of Maine’s Baptist churches. Lufkin displayed his large collection of collector plates as well as his post cards, showing many churches in Maine.
