LOVELL – Police have arrested a 20-year-old New Hampshire man at his home on a charge of stealing firearms from a local residence.

Dustin Locke, of Summer Lane in Madison, N.H., was charged in Carroll County with possession of stolen property, according to Lt. Walter Grzyb of the Maine State Police.

Locke was charged in connection with the burglary Friday of a home on Debbie Lane in Lovell. Six semiautomatic handguns with holsters and two bulletproof vests were taken in the break-in.

“This guy had quite an arsenal, and we believe that’s why he was targeted,” Grzyb said.

Maine State Police investigated the matter along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, New Hampshire police departments and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Police recovered four of the firearms. Grzyb said he did not know whether the remaining two guns and vests had been found.

Grzyb said Locke hadn’t been charged in Maine as of Wednesday, but the Oxford County District Attorney’s office will be reviewing the matter. Grzyb said the interstate transportation of the stolen weapons may lead to federal charges.

Locke was not in the Carroll County Jail as of Wednesday afternoon.
