WEST PARIS – Environmental studies at the former Penley Mill complex have found no health hazards, Town Manager John White said.

He said the study looked at river and groundwater samples and soil samples, and no toxic waste or other contaminants were present.

“The findings of the first two phases show conditions at the Penley Mill complex meet environmental needs if any development should take place there in the future,” White said.

More studies are planned to confirm the early findings, he said.

There are no development plans for the site, but White hopes another industry will occupy the wood mill and provide jobs and tax revenue for the town.

The study is being done in conjunction with the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments and the Campbell Environment Group of Falmouth. It is funded by a federal Environmental Protection Agency grant.
