A man of good appearance, evidently a stranger, stepped into an Auburn drug store Friday forenoon, and in a matter-of-fact manner asked for a pint of gin. It took some explanation to make clear to him the only place he could legally get it was at the agency. The request was made in good faith and as a matter of course. “We very frequently have people come in and ask for liquor,” remarked the proprietor, “residents from another state who are not acquainted with our law and have an idea that drug stores are dispensaries.”

Lewiston election workers, who spent some long hours at the job during the recent State election, will each get an extra $2 pay.

This action was approved last night by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Ward Four Alderman Alphee L. Nadeau brought up the point, and asked this amount be given to the Ward Four workers.

He commented on the fact that all the wards 85 absentee ballots were challenged and it was 10 o’clock before the workers started sorting ballots. Ward Six Alderman Paul A. Couture and other aldermen stated that all of the city’s election crew should be given extra pay.

After some discussion it was noted unanimously to give an extra $2 to each ward worker.
