WOODSTOCK – Selectmen scheduled a special town meeting Tuesday for voters to consider accepting the newly constructed Rustic Outlook Road off Route 26 as a public way.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield said the road leads to a new development put in by Lloyd Poland of Oxford.

“The road is paved and meets all town specifications and is a mile in length. Because it meets our specs, we will give the people a chance to make the final decision on accepting it or not as a town road. If accepted, the town will take over both summer and winter maintenance,” Maxfield said.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 in the town office meeting room.

In other business, selectmen voted to move ahead with early plans to add onto the War Memorial in front of Whitman Memorial Library in Bryant Pond.

The idea was presented by Helvi Carie and Elsie Bonney. They have plans showing the addition of two stones, one on each side of the existing stone. The new stones will be placed as wings and make room for additional names.

Selectmen felt it is a good idea to increase the size of the memorial and agreed that more space is needed.

The project will be done as soon as costs can be determined and a final plan developed.

Selectmen also agreed to begin planning for the library’s 100th anniversary on Columbus Day, Oct. 13.
