NEW GLOUCESTER – A series of free public talks to complement the new folk art exhibit, “The Human and the Eternal: Shaker Art in Its Many Forms,” will be given at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26.
All talks will be given at the Shaker Library. The exhibit in the 1816 Spinhouse (directly behind the Shaker Store) will be open free one hour before each talk. Programs will be as follows:
Oct. 2, Sister Frances Carr, Shaker cooking, 3 p.m. (note time).
Oct. 9, Brother Arnold Hadd, Shaker art throughout history, 7 p.m.
Oct. 16, Chris Becksvoort, Shaker craftsmanship in wood, 7 p.m.
Oct. 23, Betsey-Ann Golon, Botany in Shaker art, 7 p.m.
Oct. 30, Mary Ann Haagen, Shaker music, 7 p.m.
The programs are sponsored by the Shaker Museum, Maine Humanities Council, Maine Arts Commission and the Maine Community Foundation.
